November Update and the latest restrictions

On Saturday, the Prime Minister told us all that there will be national restrictions coming into effect from this Thursday,  5 November.

They will last for at least a month.

We have been talking to members and the Representative Body about what the most important things are for us to be doing during this time.

We have been thinking about our work around coronavirus now that the DHSC COVID-19 grant has ended.

Learning Disability England will continue to bring members, partners and our networks together to influence policy, work with policy makers and campaign where necessary.

There are some specific things we will be doing  over the coming weeks:

We have heard that the  self advocacy and family support sessions are really important.

So we will  keep running fortnightly sessions.

There will be an opportunity for anyone to bring problems, offer solutions, talk about what is happening and share work that will help others.

The sessions will be open to everyone who has been part of this work since March plus any other member of Learning Disability England who wants to join in and take part.

The next session is on Thursday 12 November at 3pm.

We will be keeping our Coronavirus Hub updated so you can find timely information from a range of trusted sources.

You can visit the Hub here

We will seek to build on what members are doing by connecting people, sharing information and resources.

We have just published information about visiting loved ones, looking at solutions as to how people can keep in touch within the rules.

Although the COVID-19 grant we received from DHSC has now finished, we will keep looking for other ways to host ‘open source’ webinars about the things that matter most to people.

The next webinar will be an open session in partnership with Alex Ruck Keene, a Barrister from 39 Essex Chambers on Covid and the law for people, families and supporters.

This webinar has been rescheduled to Friday 13 November at 11am to make sure it covers all the new lockdown rules.

As always, Learning Disability England is very keen to hear from members about what is most important to you.
