Race Equality Foundation and Learning Disability England have been working with people with lived experience from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities to raise awareness of, and improve the uptake of annual health checks.
Race Equality Foundation worked with researchers from the University of Central Lancashire, Manchester Metropolitan University and Learning Disability England to produce the We Deserve Better report.
The report shared research that people with a learning disability from ethnic minority backgrounds die at an average age of just 34, compared to an average age of 62 for white people with learning disabilities.
To help save lives, the NHS introduced annual health checks to help spot new health conditions earlier and to make sure people stay well. This can help reduce the number of early and avoidable deaths for people with a learning disability.
