Paradigm and Learning Disability England (LDE) are pleased to announce an important development in our shared commitment to ensuring that people with learning disabilities and their families are valued, included and able to live good lives.
Paradigm has made the strategic decision to gift its body of work, resources, and learning to Learning Disability England, after more than two decades of pioneering person-centred development, co-production, and community‑led innovation including the development of the Reach Standards.
Kate Chate, Jack Marshall and Tim Kielty, Co-Chairs of Learning Disability England’s Representative Body, said:
“As a member led organisation, we are at our best when we come together as equals. So much of Paradigms tools and resources have been co designed and delivered, they fit perfectly with how we already work. We will ensure that this doesn’t affect what LDE already does, instead, it will build on Learning Disability England’s work, adding to our movement for change – for rights, inclusion and good lives.”
This change is taking place because Sally Warren, Managing Director of Paradigm, has decided to step back so that she can work on a more part-time basis.
“Now, as I step back to working part-time, we’re gifting Paradigm’s work to Learning Disability England, confident they’ll carry the mission forward with the same passion and integrity. And the lovely bit is that I, along with our other associates, will still be involved as associates supporting LDE into the future.
Over my 17 years at Paradigm as Managing Director, I’ve had the joy of working alongside some truly brilliant people with learning disabilities, families, and colleagues (including those with lived experience). Co-facilitating has honestly been one of the best parts of the job. How lucky am I that I get to continue working with these brilliant people, doing what I love!”
By gifting its work to Learning Disability England, Paradigm is making sure its ideas, tools and approaches continue to grow, deepening their impact across the UK. LDE will build this into its member-led work, strengthening voices, supporting organisations, and championing rights-based, person-led practice.
Michelle McDermott, who has worked with Sally as co-facilitator for the past 5 years said:
“When I’ve gone out and worked with Sally, I’ve seen people go ‘I didn’t know that’ and ‘Oh I might try and approach it in that way!’ I’ve seen the way people have interacted…I felt people really taking it onboard. I’ve felt the positivity of Paradigm’s work. Its good Paradigm’s work won’t get lost. It’s good what Paradigm stands for will help Learning Disability England.”
Jodie Williams and Lisa Hopkins, Co-Chairs of Learning Disability England’s Trustees, said:
“We are honoured that Paradigm has chosen to gift its work to LDE. Paradigm’s work has shaped best practice support nationally. Bringing this legacy into LDE means we can continue that work with and for our members, ensuring it remains grounded in what people with learning disabilities say matters most.”
This gift from Paradigm to LDE reflects their shared simple belief: lasting change happens when knowledge and influence are shared, connected, and part of a strong national movement.
