The People First Podcast – Learning Disability England Conference 2025

The Good Lives Series: Effective Voice

Episode out now! The People First Podcast at the Learning Disability England 2025 Conference

To celebrate the launch of the refreshed Good Lives framework, Learning Disability England is focusing in on one chapter every two weeks.

From the 31st March to April 11th the big focus is on Chapter 5: “Effective Voice – Self Advocacy and Advocacy.

This week we wanted to spotlight the latest episode of the People First Podcast and its focus on the Learning Disability England 2025 in-person conference!

At the conference, we were joined by presenters Jane and Charlotte and the People First Podcast team.

The hosts, Jane and Charlotte interviewed a huge range of delegates and captured the spirit, energy and insights of the attendees!

Jane and Charlotte got attendees to open up about what they thought of the conference, their advice for self-advocates and even got them to share their favourite joke.

Charlotte said:

“It was excellent work. We learned about different types of work other organisations are doing. My favourite part was being together with the team outside of the office. At first I was a bit nervous, but I was happy once we got started. It was nice to be out.”

Jane said:

“It went well. The best part about it was doing the interviews.”

We were so pleased to hear the episode, which features all of those fabulous interviews and we think it captures the day perfectly.

Thank you to the People First Podcast and the team at People First Keighley and Craven for covering the conference.

You can listen to the LDE Conference episode of the podcast on their website or wherever you get your podcasts: Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Amazon Music.

About the podcast

People First Keighley & Craven is a self-advocacy group run by, and for, people with learning disabilities, and the People First Podcast is our platform to raise awareness about the real issues that affect people with learning disabilities in our community, and all over the world. We aim to inform and entertain our listeners by interviewing interesting guests and talking about the things that really matter to us. This is like having a stage, to speak out and get our voices heard.
