My Life, My choice, a self-advocacy organisation in Oxfordshire (and LDE member) have started a campaign asking organisations that work with people with learning disabilities to ‘Walk it like you talk it’ and employ people with Learning Disabilities.
This campaign is asking organisations, especially those that work with people with learning disabilities, to sign up to say they employ at least 1% people with learning disabilities, or to take actions to employ people if they are not already.
Scott Watkin (BEM) is one of the organisation member reps here at Learning Disability England and works for SeeAbility as Head of Engagement.
He knows from personal experience what a difference having a job makes to his life, and he believes it makes a difference to SeeAbility too.
“I believe it’s really important for organisations to be employing people with learning disabilities as we can help organisations think differently and share our knowledge. With the right support people with learning disabilities can hold down a meaningful job and help change people’s expectations of what people with learning disabilities can do.”
Let’s increase the number of jobs for people with Learning disabilities together.
Learning Disability England supports the campaign for organisations in our sector to employ people with learning disabilities as at least 1% of their workforce.
Do you? Will you sign up or share what you are doing already?
We know a lot of LDE members already employ 1% of people (or more) so we want to share that and demonstrate the good work already in place and what developments you have planned.
Please tell us about your work now or plans on employing people with learning disabilities in this short survey.
We will be sharing the results and promoting members’ work on employing people with learning disabilities.
