Staying safe at Christmas and Season’s Greetings!
The government have changed the rules since Gary wrote this blog. We have updated the links where the rules have changed.
The new government rules include
- Tier 4 rules that say stay at home and you cannot meet anyone outside your house or bubble. The places in Tier 4 are mostly in London, South and East – you can find them here
- Christmas changes to the rules are only for 1 day now
What is Good Lives?
Work on Good Lives began in 2020, when a group of 40 self advocates came together in Birmingham.

They spoke about what it will take for everyone with learning disabilities to be able to live their good life.
Since then, we have heard from so many people and their families about what they want and need to live well.
This formed the base of the Good Lives Framework and its seven chapters (LINK)
The framework is there to start a debate and give ideas for action.
But Good Lives is more than just a framework – it is a vision and a goal that we can all aim for.
Good Lives focuses on hope, solutions and highlights what we all stand for.
Though of course we recognise and respect the many challenges people face and the failings – Good Lives does not ignore those but uses them as a reason to keep acting and expecting more.
Learning Disability England hosts Good Lives but do not control it. It belongs to the community.

Self-Advocacy and Family Peer Support Sessions helping people to be ‘more resilient’
